My name is Solly Makgolane, and I’m the founder and teacher behind The First Discourse. Based in Phumula, KwaMhlanga, in South Africa. I lead Philosophy classes for everyday people, encouraging critical thinking, introspection, and honest discourse. With a degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, my mission is to challenge dogma, spark deep questions, and build a space where learning is fearless and real. Our weekly newsletter and blog continue the conversation, especially while we rebuild after losing our venue. I believe philosophy isn’t just for academics, it’s for anyone brave enough to question the world.
